The Detroit Scholarship Fund is administered by the Detroit regional chamber of commerce. This is an excellent program developed to assist the financially strapped urban minority students who are attending traditional post-secondary institutions. This program is well designed to benefit these students in three ways: it provides scholarship money, it establishes a pathway for increased professional and job opportunities and it provides educational resources to help those students succeed. This is a marvelous program that benefits everyone.
Detroit Scholarship Fund Provides Assistance to High School Students
Detroit Scholarship Fund operates two programs: Academic Competitiveness awards scholarships in the name of academic excellence and participates in the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC). The Detroit Scholarship Fund also awards loans in behalf of students who qualify for the Federal Pell grant (secured through FAFSA application) or who need additional assistance to afford their higher education. As part of its scholarship partnership with NACA, the fund has launched a new program that is called the National Incentive Program or PIN; this program is designed to help those students who have an inferior score on their credit or who otherwise fail to meet the minimum eligibility requirements for federal student aid. Incentive program differs slightly from the other two; it awards up to $4000 towards a full tuition fee for a full-time student.
Students who wish to participate in these scholarships must fill out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) which can be obtained at any university’s financial aid department or through the federal department of education’s student aid website. They are required to provide their personal information such as their income, address, parents’ names and other relevant information. Detroit Scholarship Fund has detailed instructions on how to proceed and to submit the free application. In addition, they also provide detailed instructions on how to submit the PIN and how to verify the results. The PIN is electronically filed with the concerned agency.
